Jay C. Rees, B.M. '84Jay C. Rees, B.M. ’84, studied music education and jazz performance at the University of Miami. In 2014, he was appointed Director of the Athletic Bands for the Frost School of Music. He received his M.M. in conducting at the University of Arizona, followed by a 21-year tenure as UA’s Director of Athletic Bands and Professor of Music. He is nationally recognized for his innovative music arrangements and inventive drill design for marching band, He has a large catalog of published original music for jazz, wind ensemble, concert bands, and athletic bands, commissioned and performed by major universities and high schools nationwide. He is a sought after clinician, guest speaker, adjudicator, and conductor for band programs across the country. An accomplished jazz bassist with international touring credits, he currently composes, performs, and records with the Summit Records jazz ensemble Sylvan Street.
