Kate’s musical skills originated in her rather unconventional upbringing.  She grew up in a very musical family, studying piano and composition from her father, Larry Muhoberac, a top call studio musician in Southern California during the ’70s and ’80s. From a very young age, she, along with her brothers and sister, hung out at the recording studios, sitting on the piano bench at her father’s side while he recorded with great artists like Barbra Streisand, Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, and Ray Charles. Larry soon had his kids singing in four-part harmony, and they began working as child singers for albums, commercials, and films. Three went on to become professionals, the two brothers as rock musicians, and Kate as a classical pianist.

As a young adult, Kate studied piano, harpsichord, and composition at the California Institute of the Arts and UCLA.  She went on to work in Southern California for twenty-five years as a private instructor.  She also worked as an accompanist/performer for the opera and choral departments of local colleges and magnet arts schools. Remembering the importance of her childhood exposure to music, she constantly donated her time to the multitude of local schools whose funding for the arts had been drastically cut or eliminated entirely. During this period, she assisted her husband of thirty-two years, Steve Freedman, in starting and operating several companies which they recently sold to make way for the next phase of their lives together. Last summer, the pair purchased a residence in Miami, and Kate is delighted to become a part of the city’s vibrant musical scene.
